Preliminary Works

The playing surface of a football field must be smooth and level and equipped with a drainage system to prevent overflow and flooding in case of rain. Therefore, the first stage of construction initially includes the placement of reinforced concrete curbing around the field, 50 centimeters high and 30 centimeters wide. Then, to ensure proper water drainage, a sub-base is installed, on top of which the turf will be laid.

Dimensions

A football field is rectangular, and its dimensions vary depending on whether it is intended for international FIFA matches or not. In the first case, the length must be between 100 and 110 meters and the width between 64 and 75 meters. When the requirements are less strict, the length ranges from 90 to 120 meters and the width from 45 to 90 meters.

Synthetic Turf

The playing surface is made of either natural or artificial green turf. The material is installed in rolls placed side by side and bonded with special adhesive. Field marking lines in yellow or white are then applied. Finally, quartz sand and rubber granules are spread across the surface and distributed using specialized machinery.

Synthetic Turf (Advantages)

Due to the disadvantages associated with natural grass, synthetic turf is often preferred, as it is particularly suitable for football field constructions with a limited budget and in areas where water is scarce. If this material is selected for football fields intended for international matches, the construction must receive special approval from FIFA, granted after certification by an accredited laboratory.

Football Goals and Corner Flags

The final stage of the main field construction includes the installation of the goals and corner flags. The goalposts must be made of aluminum with rounded edges and painted white. It is also mandatory to have one spare goal available.

Peripheral Areas

Around the field, there are dedicated areas designed to serve players, spectators, coaches, and referees. These include substitute and referee benches, locker rooms, stands, and other supporting facilities.
