The company Sport Solutions has specialized know-how and many years of experience in the construction of basketball courts that meet the strict specifications of the FIBA or the Hellenic Basketball Federation, creating the conditions for safe play. Depending on the requirements of the construction site, specific stages are followed based on a predefined and comprehensive design with high quality standards.
The first stage in building a basketball court is preparing the area according to specific dimensions so that it can receive the final surface. The duration and cost of this stage depend on the initial condition of the site. The goal is to create a completely smooth and level floor that does not retain water and has a slight diagonal slope of approximately 5/1000. The base is usually constructed with a closed-type asphalt layer approximately 6 cm thick or with an industrial flooring structure.
The second stage includes constructing the final surface by installing the appropriate sports flooring. The most common material used for outdoor basketball courts is an elastic acrylic resin surface (acrylic), enriched with rubber granules for improved shock absorption. When cost efficiency is the main criterion, an acrylic surface without a rubber granule layer is preferred. After completion, the final playing surface is hard, smooth, and available in various colors.
The playing area of a basketball court is rectangular, measuring 28 meters in length and 15 meters in width, measured from the inner edge of the boundary lines. In addition to these dimensions of the main playing area, the overall construction includes the surrounding safety zones, which are significantly larger, as the court must be at least 2 meters away from any object, including team benches. In indoor courts, the ceiling must be at least 7 meters high, while in outdoor courts there must be no obstacles at a height of at least 7 meters.
In the next stage, the court markings are applied in accordance with international regulations regarding length and width specifications. The lines must be clearly visible on the playing surface and have a thickness of 5 centimeters. White is the most commonly used color for the lines, although this is not mandatory.
Finally, the basketball hoops are installed depending on the selected type. Fixed hoops are bolted to anchored bases or secured directly to the ground, while portable hoops are stabilized with a base filled with water or sand. There are also systems consisting only of a backboard, which is either mounted on a wall or suspended from the ceiling. As for lighting, it must be installed in such a way that it does not obstruct the vision of players and referees during the game.
The construction of bleachers and auxiliary areas is not mandatory unless the court is intended for national or international-level competitions. Auxiliary areas include locker rooms, training rooms, a physiotherapy unit, and a first aid area.
